BUKLOD PANALANGIN
What is Buklod Panalangin?
Buklod Panalangin is a Christian prayer movement for national transformation. The program equips Filipinos to pray against structural evil in government, communities, and institutions.
Why do we need to pray for National Transformation?
Many churches and faith-based organizations all over the country are involved in poverty-alleviation programs, which are necessary in social transformation work. But most of these programs do not address the structural aspect of poverty.
Very few churches and Christian schools teach the Biblical view on justice. They focus their instructions mostly on dealing with personal evil. Not many explain to their members how justice is to be demonstrated in society, and how evil manifests in political and other structures. They neglect to teach the Bible’s warning against the effect of structural evil on the walk of the righteous, and how to fight structural evil.
Addressing structural evil is imperative because of the need to transform these poor communities to become agents of justice. Followers of Jesus need to understand that each human being bears God’s image; and that this implies that they have to cease from helping create the political personalities who continue to perpetuate the evil of widespread destitution – the corrupt, the warlords, and the abusive political dynasties.
What is Structural Evil?
Structural evil is the interlinked social, cultural, political, and religious practices, beliefs and traditions that describe the type of society that was so roundly denounced by the major prophets. Beyond the personal habits and individual acts of wickedness that remain unrepented and unconfessed, structural evil involves the web-like conspiracy of social factors that makes it difficult to be an upright person in the major areas of public governance in the Philippines.
In the Bible, “corruption” refers literally to physical degeneration and decay, but figuratively it denotes “moral depravity and corruption (Genesis 6:11; Exodus 32:7; Hosea 9:9; Galatians 6:8, etc.), which ends in utter moral ruin and hopelessness, the second death.”
We are informed by Scripture that God is grieved by corruption and will punish the corrupt. Yet He has also promised to relent if the sinful nation repents. For generations we have invoked 2 Chronicles 7:14 and implored God to heal our land, but the corruption persists.
A Call to Repent and Pray for Transformation
We fully believe that as we heed the Biblical mandate to humble ourselves and pray, the Lord will hear our prayer and heal our land (2 Chronicles 7:14). Only when we do this in spirit and in truth shall we experience the fulfillment of His blessed purpose for our beloved Philippines that we have awaited for generations.
As we genuinely repent and enthrone the true King of the Philippines on our praises, we shall experience healing. Dawn shall break for our beleaguered nation, and we shall be filled with hope.
